A message from the leadership of The University of Iowa and The University of Iowa Foundation
If there is strength in numbers, The University of Iowa is very strong indeed.
During fiscal year 2010 (July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010), UI alumni and friends gave almost $170 million—the third-highest annual total ever received by The University of Iowa Foundation—to support the people and programs of Iowa’s flagship educational institution. This phenomenal support came in gifts of all sizes, and each is vitally important.
More than 73,000 households—an all-time record and a 15 percent increase from the previous year—generously made gifts to the UI Foundation. These philanthropists gave to ensure that students from Iowa, across the nation, and around the world have access to a world-class UI education; to catalyze breakthrough scientific, scholarly, and artistic production throughout the University; and to help the UI serve the residents of Iowa and the global society in which we live. We are immensely grateful for the partnership of these UI alumni and friends.
The UI welcomed its largest freshman class to date for the 2010-2011 academic year, so such support is more crucial than ever. These young scholars—and the communities they will serve and lead—are counting on us to help them master the problem-solving skills they will need to build a sustainable future for themselves and their world. They are looking to UI scientists and clinicians to make the discoveries that will enable them and their families to live healthy, happy lives. And they will witness the unfolding of an entirely new, 21st-century comprehensive arts presence on the UI campus that will enrich lives for generations.
Your generosity empowers our remarkable faculty, staff, and students to lead our University in all these ways. With so many of you joining together to create extraordinary opportunities for growth, The University of Iowa’s future holds great promise.
