UI Foundation Board of Directors Update

During fiscal year 2010, the UI Foundation Board of Directors elected Kathleen A. Dore  (1972 B.A., 1984 M.B.A.) of New York City and Donald W. Heineking (1958 B.S.C.) of Coralville, Iowa, as new members.

Dore is senior advisor of vision and strategy for Proteus International, a management consulting firm in Highland, New York. Heineking is chairman of the board of directors of Security State Bank in Hubbard, Iowa.

The Foundation board also made changes among its officers. After having served as assistant treasurer for the board, Sherri P. Furman (1994 B.B.A.) became the board’s chief financial officer and treasurer.

Tiffani K. Shaw (1992 B.B.A), who had served the board as treasurer as well as its vice president and assistant secretary, will continue in those latter roles.

In October 2010, Robert W. Verhille (1955 B.S.C.) of Solon, Iowa, stepped down as board chair after three years of service in that capacity; he remains a board member. Thomas R. Hanson (1960 B.S.M.E.) of Hinsdale, Illinois, became board chair.

UI Foundation management update

The University of Iowa Foundation has promoted Sherri Furman to vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer.

Furman, of Iowa City, earned a B.B.A. degree from the UI in 1994 and has been at the Foundation since 1999. She assumes the role of chief financial officer from Tiffani K. Shaw, who continues as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Michael J. New Staff Excellence Awards Announced

At the UI Foundation’s annual Employee Recognition Luncheon on June 3, 2010, President and CEO Lynette Marshall announced the recipients of the 2010 Michael J. New Staff Excellence Award, a program established by New, the former UI Foundation president, and his wife, Mary, prior to Michael’s death on April 9, 2006.

The 2010 recipients—who received cash awards in recognition of their exemplary service to the University, the Foundation, donors, and fellow staff members—are Dusti Cermak of Iowa City, who joined the Foundation in 1998 and is now assistant to the president; and Scott Johnson (1987 B.A.) of Solon, Iowa, a 19-year Foundation employee who is director of the Prospect Management, Research, and Records Department.
