The University of Iowa Presidents Club
Founded in 1967, The University of Iowa Presidents Club recognizes the University’s most generous contributors. Gifts from Presidents Club members stand as an example for others and encourage our students, inspire our faculty, expand our programs, enhance our campus environment, and advance in countless other ways the goals of the University and those it serves.
2010 Presidents Club Assembly Highlights
The Presidents Club Assembly on April 30 and May 1, 2010, was one of the best-attended ever. Iowa Writers’ Workshop Professor Marilynne Robinson was the featured speaker for the Platinum, Gold, and Silver Presidents Club dinner; and for the Presidents Club luncheon, Writers’ Workshop Director Lan Samantha Chang led a lively discussion with faculty member Ethan Canin about his works of fiction and his films.
This year’s tours on Saturday included a panel discussion in the Senate Chambers of the Old Capitol Museum titled “The Writing Tradition at Iowa” with special guests Christopher Merrill, director of the International Writing Program; Professor Tim Barrett of the UI Center for the Book; Matt Brown, director of the UI Center for the Book; and Marvin Bell, poet and emeritus faculty member in the Writers’ Workshop. Guests also enjoyed a tour of the new, state-of-the-art Wave Basin Facility the IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering, featuring tour leaders Larry Weber, IIHR director; Fred Stern, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and faculty research engineer in the IIHR; and College of Engineering Dean Barry Butler.
