Carver-Hawkeye Arena Enhancement

Helping Today's Hawkeyes—Tomorrow's Leaders—Succeed

The life of a University of Iowa Hawkeye student-athlete is rigorous and demanding, with busy class and study schedules, extensive practice and training time, and numerous road trips and home events.

Carver-Hawkeye ArenaThe Hawkeyes rise to these challenges with dedication and pride. But for the UI student-athletes on the teams that call Carver-Hawkeye Arena home—men's and women's basketball, wrestling, and volleyball— juggling these demands is especially difficult.

Unlike their peers at nine other Big Ten institutions, the Hawkeye basketball and volleyball teams have no dedicated practice facilities. These teams must share the main court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena as their primary practice and competition venue, also scheduling around home wrestling and gymnastics event dates.

Moreover, the arena's strength-training and conditioning space, used by 13 Hawkeye teams, lags behind national standards and what peer institutions offer.

With such limitations in practice, competition, and training spaces, Hawkeye teams are unable to practice efficiently, and individual student-athletes are often unable to use personal time to their best advantage. This hurts preparation and readiness for competition and puts the Hawkeyes at a disadvantage in recruiting.

To address these obstacles, The University of Iowa has begun a series of vital enhancements to the 27-year-old Carver-Hawkeye Arena. With the help of significant private support from loyal Iowa Hawkeye fans and other Athletic Department funding, Hawkeye teams will continue to have facilities that rival the finest in the Big Ten and nationally.
