About Hancher
The University of Iowa's Hancher Auditorium has been a part of the fabric of life at the UI and in eastern Iowa since 1972. In addition to presenting many internationally renowned performers, Hancher has commissioned more than 80 pieces of new work for the stage from world-class artists such as The Joffrey Ballet, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Laurie Anderson, and Kronos Quartet.
Hancher is committed to serving the University, the Iowa City/Coralville community, the state of Iowa, and arts lovers from around the region. Students of all ages from across Iowa grow up as Hancher patrons due to innovative education programs that each year involve more than 20,000 students.
While bringing some of the world's best performers to Iowa audiences, Hancher increases the University's and Iowa's visibility and attracts students, faculty, and others to the state. In addition, Hancher brings the arts to cities and towns across Iowa, helps educate the artists and arts audiences of the future, and provides hands-on training to UI students interested in arts- and theatre-management careers.
Private support has been instrumental in Hancher's success, helping to keep ticket costs affordable, funding commissions, supporting educational activities, and much more. As Hancher recovers from the flood of 2008, private support will continue to be critical. Click here to learn more about online giving opportunities and to make a gift.
