About the College of Public Health
While clearly a new beginning, the establishment of the University of Iowa College of Public Health in 1999 --bringing together several existing areas of the University into one comprehensive college--reflected a tradition of public health teaching, research, and service at The University of Iowa dating back more than 100 years.
The College of Public Health is a statewide resource, offering top-notch education, conducting essential research, and maintaining programming that improves lives and communities throughout Iowa, the nation, and the world.
Private support has been instrumental in the college's success. Some examples of philanthropy in action in the college include:
- Thousands of annual gifts of all sizes from alumni and friends each year
- 17 privately supported scholarship accounts
- 9 named, endowed faculty positions
- 46 privately supported research and program funds
The Building Today for a Healthy Tomorrow Campaign is a multi-year initiative to help fund the creation of a state-of-the art facility that will accommodate and anticipate important advances in the field. While the college has been in existence since 1999, its departments and programs are spread out across the UI campus; students are taught in nine buildings where the college borrows classroom space, and faculty are located in three different buildings on two campuses. Bringing faculty, students, and core administrative staff together into one dedicated building is critical to fulfilling the college’s mission and sustaining the growth of the college.
Ongoing support is crucial to advancing the college's mission. Click here to learn more about online giving opportunities and to make a gift. If you would like to speak to a UI Foundation development professional about supporting the UI College of Public Health, please contact us.
